Villa Borghese - an oasis of tranquility

For our last day in Rome, we decided to get away from all the hubub and Villa Borghese was just the spot. It consists of a beautiful park in the hills just north of Rome's historic center and is also home to the Borghese Museum, which is so worth the visit (thanks for the suggestion, Chele!) The museum and grounds were originally home to Cardinal Scipione Borghese, head of one of Rome's most powerful families in the 17th century. The museum was another place we were able to use our Roma Pass cards to get in, so we definitely got our money's worth!

After walking through the amazingly gorgeous museum, we walked to the Cinema Cafe in the park and enjoyed a leisurly lunch. Talk about relaxing......it felt so good to have the sun on your face and not be in any hurry to get anywhere. I couldn't resist taking a picture of the guy taking a break from his bike ride to take a nap in the sun. We were so relaxed after our wine and cappucinos I told Jim I needed to check my pulse to make sure I was still conscious! Before long, though, we were back in the mad rush of the city but that's okay......the memory lingers for sure.

Off to Naples tomorrow!
